Head north: The Winter World University Games are happening now through Jan. 22 in and around Lake Placid. The event is advertised as the “largest winter multi-sport collegiate athletic event in the world.” Buy tickets and learn more.

Laugh it up on Saturday: Comedy Night at Saratoga Winery will feature Kelly MacFarland, who’s been seen on “The Today Show,” Comedy Central and more. The event will also feature Kathe Farris and Erin Harkes. Get tickets before they’re gone.
Warm up with some soup: Amsterdam’s fifth annual SoupFest is happening on Saturday at various restaurants and bars throughout the city. Find out more and learn about Downtown Schenectady Soup Stroll on Jan. 28 and some other food events coming up soon.
Make it a musical Sunday: DJ Hollyw8d in collaboration with Capitalize Albany Corp. is hosting a More Music Less Violence concert gala at Capital Repertory Theatre. Performances will include Doc Horton and The Jay Street Band, Camtron 5000, The Leik, Quav13 and more. Local artist Momartista will be live-painting during the event, and various speakers will take the stage. Get tickets.
On the calendar: Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Here are some events coming up to celebrate King’s life and legacy.
Also Monday: It’s been an interesting year for Copper Crow in Albany, which had to close shortly for several months after opening last January due to catastrophic flooding from burst pipes. Rather than dwelling on the past, the restaurant is celebrating with an Underwater Gala. Come dressed in beach wear, rain gear, etc. You get the point. Learn more and get tickets.
