November 2022 will see the release of more of this year’s most anticipated movies, such as the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a black comedy horror movie, and the newest projects of Alejandro González Iñárritu, Steven Spielberg, Noah Bauchman, and Luca Guadagnino. October saw the arrival of horror movies like Terrifier 2 and Halloween Ends, along with the dramas Tár, The Good Nurse, and My Policeman, the rom-com Ticket to Paradise, and DC’s Black Adam, to add more balance to the list. Some of these are already available to stream, such as Halloween Ends on Peacock, while others will be available on other platforms soon, as is the case of My Policeman on Prime Video.
November will see less horror content and more drama and even comedy, as the entertainment industry prepares for the Holiday season, and just like in previous months, many of these movies will be available to stream soon on different platforms. November, then, will welcome the highly-anticipated sequel to Marvel’s Black Panther, a black comedy-drama inspired by the life of its director, a black comedy horror movie starring Anya Taylor-Joy, a coming-of-age drama based on Steven Spielberg’s life, a coming-of-age movie about two cannibals, and a black comedy movie by Noah Bauchman. Next Exit is a sci-fi comedy-drama movie written and directed by Mali Elfman in her directorial debut. Dr. Stevenson (Karen Gillan) launches a scientific study known as Life Beyond, which allows people to commit painless suicide with the knowledge that an afterlife exists. In New York City, Rose (Katie Parker) and Teddy (Rahul Kohli), two strangers ready to die, end up sharing a rental car for a cross-country trip to their respective appointments at Life Beyond.
Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths is a black comedy-drama movie directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and written by him and Nicolás Giacobone. It’s the story of Silverio Gama (Daniel Giménez Cacho), a renowned Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker living in Los Angeles, who after being named the recipient of a prestigious international award, returns to México – however, he wasn’t counting on this trip pushing him to an existential limit. Silverio struggles with universal but intimate questions about identity, success, mortality, the history of México, and the emotional familial bonds he shares with his wife and children. Bardo will be available to stream on Netflix on December 16.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the sequel to Marvel’s Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler. The leaders of the kingdom of Wakanda will have to fight to protect their nation from the invasion forces of the undersea nation of Talokan, led by Namor (Tenoch Huerta), this in the wake of the death of King T’Challa. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will see the rise of a new Black Panther as well as the MCU introduction of Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), who will later star in her own TV series. Also starring in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett.
She Said is a biographical drama directed by Maria Schrader and based on the 2019 book of the same name by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey. She Said depicts the work done by journalists Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) and Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) as they exposed Harvey Weinstein’s (Mike Houston) history of abuse and sexual misconduct against women. Also starring in She Said are Patricia Clarkson, Andre Braugher, Jennifer Ehle, and Samantha Morton.
The Menu is a black comedy horror movie directed by Mark Mylod. It follows Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Tyler (Nicholas Hoult), a young couple who travel to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant called Hawthorne. The place is run by celebrity chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes), who has prepared a lavish molecular gastronomy menu where food is treated as conceptual art, but his approach to cuisine has shocking and deadly surprises. Also starring are Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, Judith Light, and John Leguizamo.
The Fabelmans is a coming-of-age drama movie directed by Steven Spielberg and loosely based on his early life. Growing up in a post-World War II era Arizona, Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle) discovers a shattering family secret and explores how the power of films can help him see the truth. Also starring in The Fabelmans are Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsh.
Strange World is an animated sci-fi action movie directed by Don Hall and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It tells the story of the legendary Clades, mainly Searcher Clade (voiced by Jake Gyllenhaal), a farmer who had never had the bravery of his family, who are all explorers. However, they are all forced to join forces in their most crucial mission and must rely on each other and put their differences aside while in the treacherous land of Avalonia, where a special creature awaits. Also part of the cast of Strange World are Dennis Quaid, Gabrielle Union, Lucy Liu, Alan Tudyk, and Jaboukie Young-White.
Bones and All is a coming-of-age movie directed by Luca Guadagnino and based on the 2015 novel of the same name by Camille DeAngelis. Bones and All follows Lee (Timothée Chalamet) and Maren (Taylor Russell), cannibalistic lovers who embark on a road trip across Reagan-era America. Also starring in Bones and All are Mark Rylance, Michael Stuhlbarg, André Holland, Chloë Sevigny, David Gordon Green, and Jessica Harper.
The Son is a drama movie directed by Florian Zeller and based on the 2018 stage play of the same name by Florian Zeller, and it serves as a prequel to the 2020 movie The Father. A couple of years after his parents’ divorce, 17-year-old Nicholas (Zen McGrath) no longer feels he can stay with his mother, Kate (Laura Dern). Nicholas decides to move in with his father, Peter (Hugh Jackman), and Peter’s new partner, Beth (Vanessa Kirby). Juggling work, his and Beth’s new baby, and the offer of his dream job in Washington, Peter tries to care for Nicholas as he wishes his own father had cared for him, but reaching for the past to correct its mistakes makes Peter lose sight of how to hold onto the Nicholas in the present.
White Noise is a black comedy movie written and directed by Noah Baumbach and based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Don DeLillo. It’s the story of Jack Gladney (Adam Driver), a professor of Hitler, father of four and husband to Babette (Greta Gerwig), who is torn apart by “The Airborne Toxic Event”, a cataclysmic train accident that casts chemical waste over his town. Also starring are Raffey Cassidy, André Benjamin, Alessandro Nivola, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Don Cheadle. White Noise will stream on Netflix on December 30.
